Once we have adopted from
Tongling, our hearts will always be with Tongling and the children who wait or
remain there.
It feels wonderful to be able to give back to
the orphanage that took care of our children for however long or short that may
have been.
We have found a really easy and reliable way
to do this, through FCCNY working together with Amity. We are so fortunate
that they have a fund set up specifically for the Tongling Children's Welfare
Institute.
The Hannah Ashworth Memorial Fund
and Keysha Christenson Memorial Fund
This fund was established
by Lele and Ken Ashworth in January 1998 after the untimely death of their
sweet, dear daughter, Hannah. One year later, Bonnie & Gary Christenson expanded the fund to include their beautiful, beloved
daughter, Keysha, after her untimely death in March 1999. Both girls
were adopted from Tongling Children's Welfare Institute.
Knowing that our money will go directly to Tongling is
wonderful. Also knowing that our money will be used only for bettering the
orphanage and bettering the care of our children is surely what we all
want. Please see the bottom of the page for specifics on how the Hannah
and Keysha Fund has been used to benefit all our little
Tonglingers.

Where Does the Money Go?`
The following information is taken from the November 5, 1999,
Financial and Work Report prepared by the Amity Foundation for
Families with Children from China Inc.:
10,000 yuan for a Playground at Tongling
Also in 1999, our contributors paid for three children at
Tongling to receive corrective surgery: Tong Qi, a 7 year old
boy and Tong Zi, a 4 year old boy, received cleft-lip repair surgeries.
Tong Ya, a 3 year old girl, received surgery to correct a club foot. The
cost of these three surgeries totaled 8406 yuan. A 2 year old girl, Tong
Ci, was examined to assess her congenital heart disease. This exam cost
300 yuan.
FCC-NY annually sponsors the four Amity Grandmothers at the
Tongling Center. The Grandmothers volunteer their time at the orphanage;
however, they receive a small stipend to cover their transportation and meal
costs. The total allowance for the Grandmothers at Tongling in 1999
totaled 14,400 yuan.
With additional support, we hope to introduce more programs at
Tongling, specifically to provide foster families for children and to enroll
children in community schools.

As we can plainly see, FCCNY and Amity working together through the Hannah
& Keysha Fund are making miracles
happen in Tongling. Many of our children that we have home now, played on
this playground and were held, rocked and comforted by the foster
Grandmothers. Thankfully, people donated to this cause and many of our own
children benefited. Let's do the same for the children who wait and the
children who will remain. This could have such an impact on a little one's
life! These things could, quite honestly, save a child's life.
Through Hannah and Keysha, we are saving children's lives.
